Hello, my name is Anna Wallace and awalla studio is my creative home where my work is made and shared with the rest of the world.
You may be wondering why I chose the hardest subject to paint with the hardest medium. Watercolor has always been my choice of creative expression since I could hold a brush and I’ve been fascinated with hands since about the same age because I grew up with an older brother with Cerebral Palsy. Being hyper aware of hands all my life has naturally found themselves in my art. I typically only paint and draw what I’m fascinated about, so you may find plants and insects among all the hands, too, which can tell you a little about my background as a science illustrator.
But life isn’t ever linear and I explored being in a band, singing and playing saxophone, a model, and a creative director among other artistic endeavors. It wasn’t until after my divorce that I let go of those other pursuits to quiet my life and figure out what I, Anna Wallace, really wanted to do.
I wanted to paint. Paint my pain, my sorrow, anxieties, joy, and curiosities. So, hands came back to me 10 years later as a way to express the deep and relatable.
I hope you find yourself in my art and feel like I’ve given the deep within you an image that says more than words ever could.
